The tintinnabulations made by the Kutch Copper bells fall like honey on the ears. The art of making copper bells is practiced by the Lohar community (Traditional Ironsmiths) in the Kutch region of Gujarat. Scrap iron sheets are heated and beaten with a hammer to give shape to the bell. They are then coated with copper bits and heated in furnace. Once cooled, a wooden piece is attached to the bell as a ringer for that unique sound! The rugged, raw look of the finished bells is truly nostalgic!!

Kutch Copper Bells. Small sized Copper bells made from a mix of scrap Iron zinc and copper bits laid in a Star styled design. These bells are made in the Zura, Nirona & Bhuj region of Gujarat by the Luhar craftsmen following centuries old making processes. Iron sheets, metal powder and mixture of raw cotton and mud are the basic materials for bell making that include five important steps those are shaping the metal sheet, applying metal powder, mud wrapping, heating and tuning to give that perfect sound.
